I’m assuming “preview” means Apple rolled these apps out in the U.S. I figured that was due to the “preview” status of the app, and after some research, I came across a Reddit thread that suggested changing Windows’ region settings to United States to get access to the download from the Microsoft Store. The first thing I noticed when trying to install Apple Music for Windows was that I couldn’t click the ‘Download’ button from the Microsoft Store. I suppose the apps are also part of a broader strategy from Apple to establish a stronger presence of their services on Windows, as we saw last year with the launch of Apple Music on Xbox and iCloud Photos on Windows (which joined the existing iCloud configuration panel for Windows devices).Īs an Apple Music subscriber and owner of a Windows gaming laptop, I thought it’d be fun to take Apple Music for a spin and see how it compares to Spotify on Windows as well as the existing Apple Music experience for Apple’s platforms, which I know very well and enjoy on a daily basis. The apps, which are available on the Microsoft Store, are labeled as “previews”, and they’re meant to eventually serve as replacements for iTunes for Windows, which is the only flavor of iTunes Apple still distributes after they transitioned to standalone media apps a few years ago. Of course you can use it as a media player as well, but it's best you take it for a spin to see for yourself what it can actually do for you.Last week, Apple released native versions of Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices for Windows. With iTunes, everything is kept at hand and the seamless integration with external devices like iPods and iPhones allows you to manage everything with great ease. There is also an option that enables you to perform an incremental backup, which means that only the items added or changed since the last backup will be updated. You can backup just the Store purchases, or the entire content, as you wish. The 'iTunes Backup' feature comes in quite handy and will allow you to save your library to CDs or DVDs. Other than that, iTunes has all the features you'd expect in a media player, plus something special: you can easily subscribe to podcasts, TV shows and other types of content and each of these files are automatically delivered to your computer as soon as they become available. The application will play your videos and music in a heartbeat, help you organize playlists and library items. iPhone owners surely know that in order to buy and install apps hosted by the iTunes Store, they need the downloadable application which provides the necessary environment for purchasing software in a secure method. ITunes enables you to do anything you want with your gadgets, including backups, synchronizations, contact management and, most importantly, install applications from the Apple Store. Simplicity is perhaps the most appropriate word that can summarise its overall looks and usability. Apple iTunes is an advanced application that's not only a very good media player, but also a great iPod and iPhone manager.
